Job Opening: Horse Handler

The Spirit Horse Ranch is a premier equestrian facility dedicated to Trauma Informed Care healing for everyone and youth programs for Trauma and resilience building. Our ranch provides a serene environment where both horses and humans can thrive. We are looking for passionate and experienced horse handlers to join our dedicated team. Opportunities for certifications after commitment requirements met in Natural Lifemanship Trauma Informed Care Facilitation.

  • Location: The Spirit Horse Ranch, Upcountry Maui 5 Miles past Ulupalkua Ranch Store at the Triple L Ranch Stables  

  • Employment Type: Full-Time

  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience

The Horse Handler at The Spirit Horse Ranch will be responsible for the daily care and management of our horses. This role requires a deep understanding of horse behavior, excellent handling skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of horse welfare. Handlers work in collaboration with Certified Facilitators as a team in sessions. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Horse Care: Feeding, watering, and grooming horses.

  • Stable Management: Cleaning stalls, ensuring a clean and safe environment.

  • Health Monitoring: Observing and reporting on the health and behavior of horses, administering basic medical care under the guidance of a veterinarian.

  • Safety: Ensuring the safety of horses, staff, and visitors by following established protocols.

  • Customer Interaction: Assisting with client interactions, providing help in activities and client and horse care, and ensuring a positive experience for all.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous experience working with horses is required. *Experience in a professional equestrian setting is preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Strong knowledge of horse behavior and handling techniques.

    • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting and handling equipment.

    • Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.

    • Certifications: Certification in equine management or a related field is a plus.

    • Availability: Must be able to work flexible hours, including holidays.

Job Opening: Certified Equine Assisted Facilitator

The Spirit Horse Ranch is seeking a compassionate and skilled Certified Equine Assisted Facilitator to join our dedicated team. Our facility focuses on providing experiential, therapeutic and educational experiences through interactions with horses. The ideal candidate will have a passion for equine assisted services therapy and a strong commitment to supporting the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitation of Equine Assisted Activities:

    • Conduct equine-assisted services sessions for individuals and groups, for children, adults 5 and up.

    • Develop and implement individualized plans for each client, in collaboration with other healthcare or educational professionals.

    • Ensure the safety and well-being of both clients and horses during sessions.

  2. Program Development and Management:

    • Assist in designing and refining equine-assisted programs to meet the diverse needs of our clients.

    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs, making adjustments as needed.

    • Maintain accurate records of client progress and program outcomes.

  3. Client Interaction and Support:

    • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, their families, and caregivers.

    • Provide support and guidance to clients throughout their therapeutic journey.

    • Communicate regularly with clients' support networks to ensure continuity of care.

  4. Equine Care and Management:

    • Participate in the daily care and management of the horses, ensuring their health and well-being.

    • Collaborate with the ranch's equine care team to maintain high standards of animal welfare.

    • Assist with training and conditioning of therapy horses as needed.

  5. Education and Outreach:

    • Conduct workshops and training sessions for staff, volunteers, and the community on the benefits and practices of equine-assisted therapy.

    • Represent The Spirit Horse Ranch at community events and professional conferences.

Qualifications

Certification as an Equine Assisted Learning Facilitator from a recognized organization (e.g., EAL Academy, Natural Lifemanship, Ok Corral or Path etc. ).

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in equine-assisted therapy or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of horse behavior, care, and training.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to horse care, therapeutic and mental health activities.

  • Capacity to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
